Site re-design and new Terms of Service
Finally. Finally I have the website at a place where I am very happy with the overall look and functionality.
The biyuti publishing experience is now, 100% different.
First, as you can see, the website looks much, much different. But the difference isn’t only cosmetic. I’ve instituted a different shopping cart approach where there will no longer be a centralized cart for all books. It might be more inconvenient in some ways, but it is allowing me to shift to a model where all authors, from this point on, will receive 100% of their royalties1.
After much reflection, I realized that this will probably never be ‘profitable’ nor do I want to approach this business with an eye on the bottom line. The intent and purpose has always been to help marginalized people (with a focus on trans women of colour) publish their works and, hopefully, make money.
I hope to continue funding this project through a variety of crowdfunding initiatives and, more or less, out of my own pocket. On that note… my preferred crowdfunding source is Gittip (since they allow people to donate a weekly amount and all the money I get is given to me, after transaction fees). And, even if all you think you can donate is $0.25 a week, or a $1/month, if even 25 people will do this, I’ll have my web hosting costs covered). Likely, I’ll do some fund raising on a per book basis to cover costs related to legal deposit, cover images, etc.
Okay. The even more exciting part? Is the way that the books look now.
Like. Holy fuck. YES!

If sold on this website only. Other retailers will obviously have different arrangements, but it’ll be up to the individual to sort that out. ↩
